Job Description:
USS: Security - ( Full Time, Night Shift) -

The Corporal performs security service duties through professional
and positive interaction with the public, students, employees and
administrators. Responds to a variety of calls; provides assistance
in emergency and non-emergency situations. Investigates and
documents (both electronically and written) safety hazards,
incidents and criminal activities. Responsible for patrol of
designated areas to insure the protection of the public, students,
employees and property of the LLUH organization. Is accountable to
the department's chain of command for initiative, judgment and
general competence exhibited in the performance of assignments,
calls for service and day to day general duties. Acts as shift
supervisor in the absence of the Sergeant, trains new employees,
and conducts briefings as requested. Works under the supervision of
the department's chain of command. Provides initial direction and
support as needed in emergency situations. Performs the physical
and environmental demands as outlined in the job description,
policies and procedures. Performs other duties as needed.
High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree preferred.
Minimum two years of experience in a hospital or university
security environment required or four years of general security
work accepted in lieu of hospital/university related experience.
Valid Driver's License required at time of hire. California
Department of Consumer Affairs Guard Card (prior to employment
start date), Baton certification, chemical agents, PC 832, and
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
certification preferred.
Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional
quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to
the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook). Able to accomplish
complicated hand motions. Able to safely operate vehicles,
equipment and communications devices. Able to perform job duties
while wearing necessary equipment and personal protective gear.
Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and
professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously
when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Professional
demeanor and appearance. Able to communicate effectively in English
in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically;
manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize
workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall
information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work
independently with minimal supervision. Able to read, interpret and
apply safety rules, penal codes, vehicular codes, radio codes,
reports, memos, communications, policies and other required written
materials. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear
sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the
telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated
with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and
written documents necessary to the position.
