Radiation Medicine - Temporary Assignment (Full-time, Day Shift)

The Clinical Nurse C-Radiation Medicine specializes in providing
patient-centered care for patients of all ages with malignant and
non-malignant tumors that are treated with radiation and/or proton
therapy. Must be knowledgeable about these highly specialized
courses of treatment that employs the use of external ionizing
radiation including x-rays, proton and brachytherapy using sealed
sources of radioactive material. Supports and participates in
cancer research approved by the Internal Review board (IRB).
Performs the nursing process with minimal supervision in the
outpatient clinic setting. Facilitates the empowerment of the
nursing profession and embraces new knowledge, innovations and
improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and
clinical outcomes. Functions in a skills mix environment and may
directly supervise and delegate tasks to licensed and unlicensed
staff. Performs other duties as needed.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. If hired prior to
September 1, 2018, Bachelor's Degree may be in progress with
expected completion date prior to December 31, 2021, or, an
Associate's Degree in Nursing with a Bachelor's Degree in another
field and a Master's Degree in Nursing required. If hired prior to
September 1, 2018, Master's Degree may be in progress with expected
completion date prior to December 31, 2021. Minimum two years of
general clinical nursing experience required. Minimum one year in
oncology nursing or procedural area preferred. Must meet standards
outlined in the Clinical Nurse Ladder handbook. New hires are
granted one year to meet CNC standards outlined in the Clinical
Nurse Ladder handbook. Active California Registered Nurse (RN)
license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the
American Heart Association required. Other certification(s) as
required in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care and may
be obtained during orientation process. Valid California driver's
license and automobile insurance required.
Demonstrates basic competencies in clinical oncology nursing
including radiation and proton therapy. Ability to apply
theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands
knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in oncology and
specialized treatment modalities. Basic knowledge of healthcare
regulations and accreditation required. Exhibit professional
behavior at all times. Able to: speak, read and write legibly in
English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use
computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position,
e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record,
electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate
patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities;
relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally
with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or
enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under
pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction;
think critically; work independently with minimal supervision;
perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple
assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work
well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with
accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and
smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general
conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and
distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see
adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written
documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances
through touch.
