- Neurosurgery Clinic - (Full-Time, Day Shift) -

The Medical Assistant/Patient Services Representative-Neurosurgery
is assigned to, and performs patient-oriented procedures and tasks
within the scope of their education and training, under the
supervision of physician, supervisor, or licensed staff person.
Performs transcription functions by shadowing a provider and taking
notes in the electronic medical record. Records the history of
present illness, medical history, review of systems, positive
findings from the physical exam and the provider's impression and
plan and is accountable for the accurate transcription of medical
reports, history, and physical , etc. Accurately and thoroughly
document in the patient's medical record only information that is
verbalized (i.e. Word for word) by the physician and/or independent
licensed practitioners for whom he or she is scribing. Performs
other duties as needed.
High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of a Medical
Assistant (MA) program required. Minimum six months of customer
service, general office or Receptionist vocational training
experience required, preferably in the medical field. Medical
Assistant (MA) certification required. Basic Life Support (BLS)
certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
required.
Knowledge of outpatient clinic front and back office practices and
policies. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English (and
Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and
software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and
calibrate patient care equipment. Relate and communicate
positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be
assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies;
work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead,
supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Communicate
effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone;
think critically; work independently with minimal supervision;
perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments
effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and
prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close
attention to detail. Distinguish colors and smells as necessary for
patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person
and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds
associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read
computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary
to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
