The Instructor with the School of Medicine Clinical Skills
Education Center will collaborate with faculty in a variety of
programs to ensure that students develop excellent clinical skills.
This individual will be expected to assume a leadership role in
medical student education, including program development,
implementation, and evaluation of educational programs in the
CSEC/School of Medicine. This person will perform small group
teaching and formal assessment of clinical skills and
professionalism of learners, standardized patient training and case
development, design and implementation of teaching and evaluation
activities, exam preparation, administration and analysis. In
addition, this individual will collaborate with faculty from other
departments and Schools within the University to develop, implement
and evaluate clinical skills teaching and assessment activities.
This person will integrate knowledge of current clinical skills and
communication theory as well as adult learning theory into the
activities of the CSEC. The instructor will contribute to
dissemination of best practices to the broader clinical skills
education community. Performs other duties as needed.
BSN required. Master's degree in health science or education
preferred, or graduate degree in health science or education in
progress. Minimum 5-7 years of experience in nursing and health
science education. Valid California RN license required.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and
written communication skills. Strong clinical and teaching skills.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a
team. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills. Good
leadership and supervision skills. Willingness to learn and keep
current with clinical knowledge and educational theory. Ability to
apply principles of adult learning and feedback to student and
standardized patient activities. Ability to work and stay calm
under pressure. Responsibility and flexibility in accepting work
assignments. Ability to use computer, printer and software programs
necessary to the position like Word, Excel, other software programs
and basic office and simulation equipment required for the job.
