annually ($40-$48/hour) Position Type: Contract-to-Hire Position
Summary An established organization is seeking a Payroll Manager to
lead daily payroll operations for a multi-state workforce of
approximately 800 employees. This role oversees full-cycle payroll
processing, compliance, reporting, and system improvements while
supervising one Payroll Specialist. The ideal candidate is
hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced managing complex payroll
environments with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance. Core
Responsibilities Manage and oversee full-cycle payroll processing
for approximately 800 employees across multiple states Supervise
and mentor one Payroll Specialist, providing guidance, training,
and performance support Ensure timely and accurate payroll
processing including salaries, hourly wages, bonuses, benefit
deductions, and tax withholdings Maintain compliance with federal,
state, and local payroll regulations and monitor legislative
updates affecting payroll practices Oversee payroll tax filings and
ensure all reporting deadlines and statutory requirements are met
Lead payroll system implementations, upgrades, and process
enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy Develop and
maintain payroll controls, standardized procedures, and
documentation Partner with HR, Accounting, and external vendors to
improve payroll workflows and resolve discrepancies Support audits
including 401(k), workers' compensation, and financial audits by
preparing required payroll documentation and reports Review
payroll-related employee updates such as new hires, terminations,
compensation changes, and benefits adjustments Generate payroll
reports and analytics to support leadership decision-making
Qualifications Strong knowledge of payroll processing,
reconciliation, internal controls, and payroll tax compliance
Proven experience managing multi-state payroll operations Prior
leadership experience supervising payroll staff High level of
accuracy, strong analytical ability, and excellent attention to
detail Strong organizational and communication skills Proficiency
in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel Experience with payroll
software required; ADP Workforce Now experience strongly
preferred/required Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in
Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related
field preferred Minimum of 5 years of payroll management or
senior-level payroll leadership experience In-depth knowledge of
federal and multi-state payroll laws and compliance requirements
Demonstrated experience supporting payroll system implementations
or major upgrades Pay Details: $40.00 to $48.00 per hour Search
